90th Anniversary

90th Anniversary
On March 1, 2007, we celebrate 90 years of existence and community service.
The Miami-Dade County, the City of Miami, City of Coral Gables, City of Homestead and the Village of Key Biscayne, have declared March 1, 2007 as Rotary Club of Miami Day, and as such, will present their proclamations at a celebration held at the Rusty Pelican Restaurant on Key Biscayne starting at 12:15 p.m. Keynote speaker is Frank Devlyn, Rotary International President 2000-01. Over a hundred community leaders such as mayors, university presidents and CEOs of major businesses and non-profits are expected to attend the celebration.
Chartered in 1917 with founding President Dr. James Jackson, the Rotary Club of Miami has maintained its historically pivotal role. What would Miami-Dade County be without the University of Miami, the Orange Bowl Committee, the YMCA of Greater Miami, the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind, the United Way, Junior Achievement and Everglades National Park?
These are a few of the institutions and dozens of civic, cultural and social service organizations that were founded and developed with the assistance of the members of the Rotary Club of Miami. Members have included William Jennings Bryant, Stanford Ash, Frank Shutts, Frank Stoneman, Rodney Burdine, Alexander Orr, Jr., William Robbins, Dr. Bascom Palmer, Thomas Brown McClelland, Roger Barreto, Robin Shelley, Dr. Joe Davis and Paul Williams.
About the Rotary Club of Miami: Following its motto “Service above Self,” the Rotary Club of Miami fosters the ideal of service in the local and international community and promotes high ethical standards in business and professions to ultimately advance understanding and cooperation among all peoples. The Rotary Foundation of Miami is a permanent tax-exempt corporation to direct contributions from members and friends of Rotary to worthy community causes. The Club’s Foundation administers the Thomas Brown McClelland Trust which has provided over $4 million in medical scholarships to Miami-Dade County residents.
