The Miami Yacht Club
President Phil Seipp called the meeting to order. Jay Almeida gave an invocation and John Carroll led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. At that moment – Phil rang the Rotary bell and “officially” got the meeting underway!

- Yvonne Alfred was visiting from Lake Charles LA;
- Virgilie Pete is Patrick's mother-in-law;
- Linnetta Aliu, Patrick’s wife, came along for the ride. She is the manager of PSA;
- Virgelie Aliu, Patrick’s daughter joined us again;
- Luis Machuca is Director of Business Development with PSA Construction.
Announcements
- President Phil presented a new member Red badge to Randy Lichtman for his wife Susan;
- Arlene Terrinoni was presented with her new Blue badge – congrats on now being an official old member!!;
- Norby Rudel reported on the new member gathering at Diane Landsberg’s home Wednesday night. He presented the plans for a “Road to the Blue Badge” program. The project plans to connect new members with mentors, with the hope that these mentors can share their experiences and guide new members along in the club. Keep an eye out for more details to come;
- Phil Seipp stated that the club has gained 10 members since July who will all need help in learning about Rotary and our interesting history.
- Rotary District 6990 will be collecting funds for Hurricane Harvey Relief through the Robbins Fund. The Club’s Happy $ collections will be designated to the Robbins fund. Anyone wishing to donate directly to the fund may do so. Checks should be made out to “The Robbins Fund of District 6990” and mailed to c/o Scott Shulman, at Lundy, Shackter, Shulman & Kaplan, 400 N. Pine Island Rd. #300, Plantation, FL 33324. The funds are filtered through our District 6990 and will be distributed to affected districts for distribution as needed in each community.
- Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is coming up. So far, we have 11 Miami Rotarians registered including 3 of our new members.
Happy $$$$$$$$$$$ were collected by Norby Rudel – Because of Hurricane Harvey, we will switch donations to the Robbins Fund
- Phil Seipp led the way with a $50 donation for Hurricane Harvey relief;
- Linda Singer and Dave Skinner were happy to be celebrating their 21st wedding anniversary;
- Arlene Terrinoni was glad she made it to her blue badge;
- John Carroll was happy to be home and back at Rotary. He was also glad that his son and his home are safe in Houston;
- Renel Noel wrote 2 checks for a donation to the Hurricane Relief effort;
- Randy Lichtman’s son, Leo, is celebrating his 29th birthday. He is also happy that the Rotaract Club at MDC participated in a Club Rush and had over 60 students indicate that they are interested in Rotaract;
- Yvonne Alfred and Virgilie Pete are happy that all their family in Louisiana are well after the storm;
- Virgilie Aliu also was glad her family was all well. She also shared that it was her dad Patrick’s birthday tomorrow and she is also happy to see celebrities on social media doing what they can to support Hurricane Relief;
- Diane Landsberg thanked Norby for his work at on the mentorship program. She also expressed the Club’s concern for Maria Rudel’s mother who is in Hospice care. We are all keeping her in our prayers;
- Patrick Aliu shared that he and his company had consulted with folks in Texas about ways to improve the bayou waterways. The suggestions were not acted upon at the time but he wishes all the people affected the best;
- Shirley Pardon hopes that Hurricane Irma disappears into the Atlantic and hits no land;
- Rick Herandez contributed $20 for Hurricane relief;
- Dave Skinner and Linda Singer left a nice check for the relief efforts;
- All totaled, we raised $894 today for the Robbins Fund to aid Texas!

What is a Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member? - Through the Every Rotarian Every Year (EREY) program, when you donate a total of $100 or more, you become a sustaining member of the Rotary International Foundation. Our Club is currently leading our District in contributions to TRF this year and has been awarded 100% EREY SUSTAINING status for several years now.
Member Focus on Past President Scott Richey
Why did you join Rotary?
I learned about Rotary from Past President Paul Williams. I wanted to join a civic-minded organization to network and give back to the community.
What Rotary positions have you held?
I was on the Board form 2009-2013 and have served on the Foundation Board since 2008. I was Community Service Chair for two years and was Club President in 2013-14.
Recognition and Awards?
Rotarian of the Year 2010-2011 and Presidents Volunteer Award
Your personal life?
I have been married since 2010 to my beautiful wife Karla, who has now become a Rotarian. We have two childer – Kenneth and Valeria. I grew up in St. Louis and graduated from the University of Missouri.
Professional life?
I have been working at Northern Trust Bank for the past 33 years. I am the Senior Managing Director and Senior Vice President at the Coral Gables office.
What you don’t know about me?
I am an identical twin. My brother Mark is a dentist and lives in San Diego. Back in the day we won the Missouri State doubles tennis championship.

- Daniella Cabezas is the Associate Director of Development and Membership at the Miami Children’s Museum;
- The Museum opened in 2003 and has served over five million visitors;
- Miami Children’s Museum’s (MCM) mission is dedicated to enriching the lives of all children by fostering a love of learning through play and enabling children to realize their highest potential;
- It is their vision to be recognized as a premier institution serving children and their families while inspiring children to learn about themselves and the culturally diverse community we live in through art, science, literacy and early childhood education;
- The 56,500 square foot facility is located on Watson Island. It was designed by Arquitectonica International Inc., an award-winning Miami-based architecture and design firm. The building, for and about children, represents the elements of the world; earth, wind, water and fire. Our facility includes 14 galleries, a pre-school, a charter school, the KidSmart educational gift shop, a 200-seat auditorium, and a Subway restaurant.
50/50 - With ticket sales of $94 at the meeting, our 50/50 grew to $2479. Arlene Terrinoni won the chance to draw for the lucky Ace of Spades from the 16 cards remaining in the shrinking deck. She was not successful, but will have $25 donated to her EREY. The pot will start at $2454 next week with only 15 cards remaining in the deck!
