President Norby Rudel struck the bell at 12:30 sharp to begin the meeting and welcomed everyone. 

Don Van Orsdel gave an invocation and John Carroll led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance to our Flag.

• Maria Van Orsdel, Don’s wife, was also a welcome sight at today’s meeting

Birthdays and Anniversaries

Jay Almeida and Angela Deggs were celebrating birthdays this week.

• Maribel was happy to be at today’s meeting;
• Diane Landsberg presented Dr. Ted Malinin with a bowtie; Bunny Uriarte with a mug with 'HAPPY BUNNY' on it!  Angela Deggs won a pulmonary machine which she will donate to FIU;
• Scott Richey was thankful for the many condolence messages, letters and support Karla received on the passing of her grandmother in Peru;
• Arlene Terrioni was happy to spend the week at the Chopin competition, an event held every five years.  She was able to listen to beautiful music every day;
• Dave Skinner was happy that he and Linda are going to escape the summer in Miami by going to the Adirondack mountains for a couple of months;
• Don Van Orsdel was happy to be at the club and that Dr. Emma Lew was going to be today’s speaker;
• Robin and Susan Shelley were happy because they received a Valentine from Diane Landsberg;
• Bunny Uriarte was happy to receive the Happy Bunny mug;
• Jay Almeida was happy to have had his birthday and hear everyone sing!  He was also happy that Dr. Lew was speaking today;
• President Norby was happy that he signed up our first Corporate Sponsorship member, Care Resource.  He acknowledged that the introduction was made by Shirley Pardon, through her daughter-in-law, a member of the staff at the center.  They will be holding many events that Rotary will be able to participate in;
• Shirley Pardon was happy to be going to the UK on Monday to visit her family and also hopes she will be able to get back ok with the ongoing virus threat.

Business Announcements

• March 2 at Greenstreet Café – a happy hour to raise funds for Bake-A-Wish hosted by the Coconut Grove Club;
• TBM interviews are scheduled for March 14, 21 and 28.  Be sure to sign up to participate;
• Rotary Leadership Institute, aka RLI, is March 14.  Levels 1, 2 and graduate;
• Robert Bull shared that upcoming community service activities will be circulated to all.

Today’s Speaker was introduced by Norman Kassoff.

• Dr. Emma Lew is the Chief Medical Examiner for Miami-Dade County.  
• In her presentation she described the variety of cases her office addresses so that we could better understand the work she does;
• Some photos were very graphic and hard to watch (good thing everyone had eaten already). The Medical Examiner’s Office does not judge, but rather provides scientific opinions based on the facts of a case;
• Diane Landsberg presented Dr. Lew with a Paul Harris Fellowship for letting the club use the Medical Examiner’s offices for the TBM interviews over the years.  Dr. Lew  was very grateful.

Today’s pot totaled $270 before the drawing of the first ticket.  Shirley Pardon was the first ticket drawn, but unfortunately she did not draw the ace of spades.  She thought it was very unfair that she had to draw when it was such a large number of cards!! Pobrecita.

Conclusion

President Norby thanked all working Rotarians for their contributions.
