President Noreen Timoney called the meeting to order on Zoom.
Robin Shelley gave an invocation.
Marcia Brod led us in pledging allegiance to the flag.
President Noreen shared a couple of photos of iconic parks in Miami-Dade County prior to our hearing from our speaker today from Miami-Dade Parks. Below are pictures of the Margaret Pace and Matheson Hammock Parks.
President Noreen reminded us that this day was the horrific Exxon Valdez oil spill on coast of the Alaska.
Women in service were also acknowledged in honor of Women’s History Month

We will be meeting in April or May to visit Miami Senior High’s Interact Club, which our club sponsored many decades ago. Due to Covid, we were unable to meet over the past two years. We are looking forward to supporting our students in our Interact Club.

Dennis J Caltagirone, who was on the Zoom meeting today, is an area district governor for District 6990 and was amazed by everything our club does. He remarked on how well our meetings are conducted in terms of the content and the presentation.

Phil Seipp presented a Paul Harris Fellowship Award with three stones to Marcia Brod. Expressions of thanks and appreciation were extended to Marcia because of her great work and contributions.

Noreen Timoney recognized Diane Landsberg and Phil Seipp for all the work they have been doing for the Thomas Brown McClelland Trust and thanked them for giving so much time and effort to our signature initiative.
Today’s Speaker
Maria Nardi, director of Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department, addressed us today. She informed us about the numerous missions and projects under the purview of the department. Miami-Dade County currently has over 280 acres of parks and environmentally protected land. She addressed the impact of climate change on the lands managed by the department. There is a master plan for parks and open spaces, which is a 50-year vision, based upon input from the community.
Our club participated earlier this year with Million Trees Miami, a county initiative to increase the tree canopy. Our volunteers planted 200 trees in the salt marsh at Crandon Park. That and other volunteer activities can be found at https://www.miamidade.gov/global/recreation/home.page.
Robin Shelley’s second grandson will be celebrating his birthday;
Robert Bull was thankful for work being done on our County Parks and to help Ukraine;
Oliver Ruiz wished the Shelleys good luck in the University of Miami March Madness upcoming game, even though he is a Nole;
Arlene Terrinoni was in a giving to the Ukraine relief effort;
Marcia Brod was happy to receive the Paul Harris Fellowship Award and shared details of an interesting upcoming Brightline trip for Miami Marlins season ticket holders to travel to Jupiter and attend a pre-season baseball game there;
Linda Singer was happy that the COVID-19 rate of infection in South Florida is low and that she was enjoying more activities now because of that; and
Carlos Bonadies was thankful for living in the U.S. and wanted to help with the Ukraine effort.
President Noreen was thankful for our speaker and was contributing again for the Ukraine effort.
