President Phil Seipp called the meeting to order. Jay Almeida gave an invocation and John Carroll led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

Lavidson Germinio Curto was today’s sole guest and is a visiting Rotarian from the Rotary Club of Aracruz in Brazil. He is a PDG and Past President. He spoke about wishing to partner with our club on a Global Grant to modernize and supply a local pediatric hospital in Brazil.
Announcements
We had a very enthusiastic Club Assembly meeting last week. The club leadership team will be formulating plans for the 2018-19 year and the ideas presented at the club assembly will be incorporated into next year’s agenda. Norby Rudel will be following up with a survey to all members shortly.
Diane Landsberg hosted an Area 6 meeting at her home. Presidents and Presidents-elect from Key Biscayne, Coconut Grove, Brickell and Miami Clubs were in attendance. Assistant Governor Roberto Ruvalcaba led the meeting.
On Saturday, May 12 there will be a Board Retreat at the home of Diane Landsberg. Current and incoming board members will be in attendance. However, as always, all members are invited to attend. The meeting will start around 11:00.
Angel Rodriguez was presented with a check to complete our funding of hygiene kits and blankets for homeless vets.
Shirley Pardon invited everyone to the Glenmorangie Scotch Tasting event on May 31st at the Miami Yacht Club. The event will be from 6-8:30pm. Members are free, spouses are $20, guests are $25 and a guest couple would be $40. RSVP is required.
Last weekend was the District Conference in Key West. Robin Shelley and Dave Skinner shared the awards announced at the Conference that were presented to our club:

Arlene Terrinoni shared an event being sponsored by the Miami Airport Rotary Club. The event will be dinner and a movie at Cosford Cinema. Details to follow.
Angel Rodriguez was thrilled with the response to the Military Lounge’s latest fundraising event. He also thanked Robin and Susan Shelley for their generous donation. He is also working on a Walk and Roll Event to help homeless veterans. The event is hoping to encourage healthy living and to raise funds to help the homeless.
Randy Lichtman stated that the Interact Club at Miami High has a new advisor – Randy Jimenez – who is a former member of the Miami High Interact Club. Randy was excited to see over 50 folks at the presentation of the 4-Way Test Award. Recipients were:
Lucia Galeano – recipient of $1,500
Carlos Gashillo – recipient of $1,000
Jessica Murillo – recipient of $500
Awards will be sent directly to the colleges that they will be attending. The students and their parents will be attending a club meeting to share their essays.
Dave Skinner was happy about the many awards the Club received at the District Assembly.
Shirley Pardon was happy to be heading to England to visit family, traveling on the Queen Mary and then going to Honduras for a mission trip. She is looking forward to her travels, but will miss everyone at Rotary.
Jaime Tobin is excited to be heading back to school to further her education.
Jay Almeida had a great time in Gainesville and was thrilled to attend his daughter’s graduation from the University of Florida.
Linda Singer had a fabulous time at the District Conference and encouraged everyone to attend next year’s Conference in Grand Bahama.
Susan and Robin Shelley were excited to share that their daughter’s latest medical tests showed that she is now five years cancer free. How wonderful!!
Noreen Timoney was just happy to be with her Rotary family.

Seminars are presented in the U.S. The book is provided for free to people in areas of Brazil and Mexico and is often used as a sole resource for medical information when medical professionals are often hard to reach.
The book was offered to Rotarians at the meeting at a discounted price and many took advantage.
Shirley Pardon was the lucky first draw in today’s 50/50 raffle. She was excited and eager to put the $1,281 jackpot prize to good use – unfortunately she did not pick the correct card.
