PRESIDENT NOREEN TIMONEY welcomed all to the meeting. She reminded everyone of our Zoom etiquette, particularly with attention being paid to the following:

Not eating while the camera is on.

Muting when not speaking to stop ambient noise.

Being ready to unmute quickly when scheduled to speak.
-
Not waving hands and moving up and down in front of your camera.
The INVOCATION was given by SHIRLEY PARDON.

DISTRICT CONFERENCE – Sept 9-12th
Pres. Noreen congratulated 2020/21 DG Peter Verbeeck on a successful conference which took place at the Naples Grande Beach Resort. The Rotary Club of Miami was represented by: President Noreen, Dave & Nelly Anderson, Robin & Susan Shelley, Phil & Sharon Seipp, Diane Landsberg, and Jay Almeida.
Robin Shelley gave an overview of the weekend. Our club was recognized in many categories and Phil Seipp received a special award for his Bahamian fund raising for helping to rebuild and resupply the local hospital. Dave Anderson’s father was recognized for 64 years of continuous Rotary attendance. Dave Anderson and our club were acknowledged for membership growth; Jay Almeida was given a shoutout for the Public Image Award presented to him at the Board installation in June; Diane Landsberg shared the history of our TBM Trust. Three of our FIU Rotaract students, Michael Qureshi, Tooba Sheikh, and Samantha Dumala joined us and gave a wonderful presentation about the FIU Rotaract’s past accomplishments and future plans. Diane co-presented information about Youth Peace In action, a program being introduced to District Interact Clubs. We received other awards, including one for outstanding accomplishments. President Noreen thanked Past President Robert Bull for his tremendous efforts and achievements and will be giving the awards to Past President Robert in recognition of his great work, commitment and dedication.
The following Rotary Club of Miami members were acknowledged for their many years of service: Linda Singer, Robert Shelley, Phil Seipp, Norm Kassoff, Brian Tschirhart, Don Van Orsdel, and Harold Zabsky.
Robin and Susan Shelley presented the moving tribute for members that passed away in the last several years (since our last in-person District meeting).
Our Club was featured in a half-page ad in the conference program brochure and thanked for our sponsorship.
The next District Conference at Rosen Plaza, Orlando – May 22-25, 2022.
INTRODUCTION OF OUR KEYNOTE SPEAKER, MATT HAGGMAN BY MARCIA BROD
First Marcia introduced Mr. Haggman’s assistant – her daughter Melissa.

Mr. Haggman is Vice President at the Beacon Council with special responsibility for creating ONE COMMUNITY ONE GOAL – shaping Miami and uniting the community for prosperity.

He spoke on the major news that Miami is now being recognized as one of the world’s major cities, continuing to rise and bring wealth and prosperity to South Florida. He addressed Climate Change, Infrastructure, Affordable Housing and other important matters in the question-and-answer session.
Matt’s talk prompted a lively question and answer period from our members and guests (including our international guests).
President Noreen thanked him for an interesting and informative presentation to our Rotary club and Matt and President Noreen shared an exchange about Miami 21 and the beginning of a vision that brough us to a new urban level. Matt received a great round of applause and was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation. He will also be having a tree planted in his honor this Fall at our tree planting event.

PRESIDENT Noreen thanked Matt Haggman for being our guest speaker, Shirley Pardon for the Invocation and scribing, Marcia Brod for introducing Matt, Diane Landsberg for Pledge of Allegiance and Amelia Bonilla for leading everyone in the 4 Way Test. She also thanked Melissa Brod, all our members and guests and recognized our international guests (Jens, Charlotte, and Nagiyoti).

Matt Haggman agreed to stay on the Zoom after the official conclusion of the meeting to answer further questions. Further discussion was held after the adjournment.
The meeting adjourned at 1:30pm.
