President Robert Bull welcomed everyone to our Spooky Halloween Happy Hour at 5:30PM. We had twenty-seven Members and guests in attendance. One of our guests was Agathe Epadov, who is interested in joining our Club. She is originally from Corsica, France. We hope that we did not scare her away during our Spooky Happy Hour.
Announcements:
Birthdays: Angel Rodriguez’ birthday is the day after Halloween, November 1st. Dr. Ada Dana’s birthday is on November 4th. Happy Birthday to both of you!
Before we started with our Halloween celebrations, Noreen Timoney introduced our guest speakers from the Alzheimer’s association. Now that is a scary disease! Our speakers were, Andrea Gonzalez, who talked about the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, and Keith Gibson who gave us an update on the disease. This year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be on November 14th. This Walk will be different from last year’s due to the COVID pandemic. Instead of walking in a large group in one location, we will walk separately in different locations, around our neighborhoods and elsewhere. Those who sign up with the Rotary Club of Miami team on a timely basis will receive a flag that they may carry during their walk. Please sign up soonest at: https://act.alz.org/site/TR/Walk2020/FL-SoutheastFlorida?team_id=631837&pg=team&fr_id=13365
Once the scary Alzheimer’s presentation was over, we showed off our costumes. Phil Seipp came dressed as an OBGYN Doctor. David Skinner was a pirate. Frank Voytek had a scary mask, named after its Chinese manufacturer. Norby and Maria Rudel were dressed as a freaky rock star and his Spanish lady. Diane Landsberg wore a frog head covering. Noreen Timoney brought her ate, a mummy. Jens Neumann, all the way from Germany, got into the spirit and used a spotlight in a dark room for an extra spooky appearance. Amelia Bonilla and Diane Stieber both had cameo appearances with their young ones (son and granddaughter, respectively). Linda Singer and Arlene Terrinoni had great outfits. Steve Dutton wore a very spooky outfit. Robin and Susan Shelley came dressed as Frank N Stein and his partner. Marcia Brod wore a shiny wig and Ada Dana came dressed as a witch. Scott Richey wore his football gear. Angela Deggs came a Merlyn the Magician. Jay Almeida was a happy hippy. Stephanie Bull came as a cat lady. Bunny Uriarte and Shirley Pardon brought their smiles. We let the lucky wheel decide who had the scariest outfit. The wheel’s algorithm randomly chose Marcos Menendez, but as he ducked out early from the meeting, he was disqualified. As the saying goes: you snooze – you lose. Diane Landsberg was the winner in the next spin and she selected a bottle of white wine. Dave Skinner won the final spin and he got a bottle of red wine.
Our Spooky Happy Hour ended on schedule at 6:30 as President Robert Bull wished everyone a happy and safe Halloween and reminded all to Vote Your Choice.
