President Norby Rudel welcomed everyone to the meeting. Cory Gittner gave an invocation and John Carroll led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.
Visitors and Guests were introduced by Rick Miller
- Syd Andrews joined us and is a member of the Rotary Club of Gibraltar;
- Kelsey Rumberg visited us again. She is a Rotarian from Chardon, Ohio and will be in Miami for a few months.
Both visiting Rotarians benefited from a Rotary Club of Miami banner giveaway.
Birthdays and Anniversaries
- March birthday greetings were extended to: Brian Tschirhart, Marianna Solis, Oliver Ruiz, and yours truly, Marcia Brod;
- Rotary Anniversaries this month are: Rick Miller, Linda Singer, and Renel Noel.
Happy $$$$$$$$$$$ were earmarked for TBM and were collected by Diane Stieber
- Rick Miller and his plants are enjoying a new sprinkler system. Rick thanked fellow Rotarian Renel Noel for his work;
- Linda Singer took a spill the other day, recovered and was thankful for the work she has been doing at the gym. The fall was less damaging due to her workout regimen;
- Marcia Brod was happy to share two examples of excellence in customer service. One was at the Chili’s near ZooMiami and the other with Kenneth Cole in regards to a suitcase that had nonworking wheels – both issues were resolved so easily;
- Renel Noel is heading to Haiti to witness the completion of his last bathroom construction project;
- Noreen Timoney was happy to be at the meeting;
- Dave Skinner was glad to see people at the meeting today and was thankful for the new chef at the Miami Yacht Club;
- Diane Landsberg was also happy to be at the meeting and presented Jay Almeida with a journal where he can record his notes from Pastor Bill White’s sermons, something he likes to do;
- Brian Tschirhart celebrated his 42nd wedding anniversary in Canaan, Israel. The trip was wonderful;
- Phil Seipp was glad to see everyone at the meeting.
With no guest speaker at today’s meeting, various members shared valuable information:
Phil Seipp spoke briefly about the TBM interview process [now cancelled] and shared the background of the TBM Trust for those who were visiting the meeting.
Robert Bull, our incoming President-Elect, shared insights from the President-Elect Training Seminar (PETS) that he attended in Orlando.
- He proudly displayed a new Rotary pin on his lapel. He is now a life-time member of the Rotary Beer Fellowship group. There is truly a Fellowship group for everyone!
- It was fascinating to hear the many accents, opinions and club situations from the over 400 attendees at the meeting;
- Entertainment performances came from Bagpipers and also a terrific High School Drum Line from Orlando;
- Rotary International President-Elect Holger Knaack’s theme for the upcoming Rotary year is “Rotary Opens Opportunities”;
- The plenary speakers were excellent and breakout sessions were productive;
- The closing session keynote speaker was Past DG, Barry Rassin. He is from the Bahamas and shared information about the situation that continues to challenge the Islands. They are a resilient people and are working hard to regain normalcy in their lives and homes.
Steve Dutton shared his hopes on involving the club in a project to end homelessness in the City of Miami. He is currently working with City leaders and will share more about his efforts with the Club. From the reaction of those in attendance, the Rotary Club of Miami is ready and willing to be a part of his plans.
