President Oliver Ruiz welcomed everyone to the meeting and began the countdown to the Club’s 100th Anniversary and the fundraising Gala that is planned for March 25, 2017. He thanked The FIU School of Medicine, Sabadell Bank and the Knight Foundation for committing to be sponsors for the event.
Oliver reminded everyone that Friday, November 11 is Veteran’s Day. We all thank our men and women in our armed forces now and in the past for their service to our country.
Don Van Orsdel spoke about the passing of Former Attorney General Janet Reno. Don grew up knowing her and respected her work and life of service – she will be missed. He followed by giving an invocation.
Arian Pousa led us in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

Bunny Uriarte was visiting the club today. She is from Arizona and has come to Miami to work for a bilingual book program – Read Conmigo. Bunny has already made a great impression by helping at the recent Interact Conference. We look forward to her becoming a member!

Jay Almeida thanked Norby Rudel for his talents facilitating at the Interact Conference. It was a long day, but the excitement of the crowd was infectious. He also acknowledged others who helped out: Brian Tschirhart, Marcia Brod, Cathy Cahill, Diane Landsberg, Oliver Ruiz, Randy Lichtman and Angel Rodriguez.
Diane Landsberg also thanked everyone for their efforts with the Conference. An implementation manual will be created to assist with future conferences.
John Harrison (represented by Diane) is happy to be working on a project for the Club involving the Black Police Precinct and Courthouse Museum.
Randy Lichtman was happy with the results of the Conference. He also shared that his son, Leo, came home to surprise Mom for her birthday.
Phil Seipp wakes up every day being happy to be Club Treasurer and also being the President-Elect.
Arian Pousa was excited to be back for a lunch meeting. He had been away on a trip to Cuba and then home recovering. He is now feeling better and happy to be back.
Cory Gittner enjoyed the District Cruise. Our club was well represented and the time was well spent at several meetings and social events.
Oliver Ruiz shared that there was a nice article in The Lantern, a publication of the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind, that mentions the Club’s long-time commitment to the organization.
