The Miami Yacht Club
 
President Dave Skinner called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone.
 
The INVOCATION was given by ANGELA DEGGS.  The Pledge of Allegiance was lead by ANGEL RODRIGUEZ. The Rote was scribed by SHIRLEY PARDON
 
Guests and Visitors were introduced by NOREEN TIMONEY as follows:
  • Angela Ferreiro visiting from Rotary Club of Lima Peru.
  • Dany Leon Pinto visiting from Rotary Club of Lima Peru
  • Dr. Alaaeldien Waziry visiting for the first time – possibly as a potential member
  • Isaias Santana Diaz, visiting for the first time with a possibility of joining our club.  A guest of Virgilie
  • Gary Sissler, former member, visiting as a guest of Norman Kassoff
Announcements –
  • OCTOBER 28TH, a brunch will be held at Diane Landsberg’s home.  Friends and potential members are invited.
  • MARCH 28th, The International President will be visiting our District.  An event is being planned entitled Night of 1000 Paul Harris
 
Happy $$$$$$$$$s – Lead by Norby Rudel
  • Linda Singer – happy to be going on a road trip to Atlanta.  Also happy to see everyone back at the club and especially Tim Ryan
  • Dave Skinner – happy to be going on the road trip to Atlanta with his wife Linda
  • Angela Deggs is happy to be present
  • Virgili is happy for many family events, also she has just been approved for a Cigar kiosk at Tampa airport
  • Scott Richey – happy for his daughter’s birthday
  • Robin & Susan Shelley – happy that they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary – in style at the Diplomat Hotel
  • Noreen Timoney – thanked the club for all the things we do.  Happy to see so many members back at the lunch
  • Diane Landsberg – thankful for a good Board meeting
  • Phil Seipp – happy for the club
  • Diane Stieber – happy to be back and for her new baby granddaughter
  • Oliver Ruiz – congratulated Robin and Susan on bringing the guest speaker and happy that we support UM
  • Bunny Uriate – happy to be back and going to be graduating in July.
  • Gary Sissler – is here because of the speaker ,  Offered an opinion that veterans go to the games at his expense
  • Dany Leon Pinto – happy to be visiting the Miami Club
  • Norby Rudel happy to be heading to Spain!
 
Our Speaker, KATY MEIR, Head Coach for the Women’s Basketball Team at UM was introduced by Robin Shelley.
  • Katy had been a standout player at Duke University then pursued a professional career in basketball.  She was then called to be the UM coach which she gladly accepted.
  • Katy said that her team was number one in the nation for community service which she greatly encouraged her team to undertake.  She also said that their free education was something they must take advantage of.
  • She explained that a culture of Gratitude exists at UM which  is to be embraced as it is rare to find.
  • Katy is a founder of Free Throw Challenge for Cancer Fund which she proudly encourages everyone to support.
  • Questions were taken from members.
  • Katy signed a basketball which was auctioned.  Tim Ryan was the highest bidder with $100.
  • President Dave Skinner thanked her for an inspiring speech.

Unfortunately the winner of the first ticket did not draw the Ace of Spades.
 
The meeting concluded with the FOUR WAY TEST led by Diane Landsberg.
 
The meeting closed at 1.35 pm.
