President Phil Seipp called another great meeting of the Rotary Club of Miami to order. Shirley Pardon gave an invocation remembering our veterans in commemoration of Veteran’s Day next week. Angel Rodriguez led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

Ali Machado is with DLA USA Holding Corp. He is in Miami for the six months to explore the opportunity to expand his Brazilian company into the U.S. He is very familiar with Rotary, having been a Youth Exchange student;
Jaime Tobin is moving to Brickell with her family. She is a third generation Rotarian, previously with the Rotary Club of Las Cruces in New Mexico;
Steve Duggan is the proprietor of Paddy Reilly’s Music Bar in NYC;
Bea and Jack Macdermott are a retired couple who are happy to be visiting the Club again;
Dr. Da Vinci Carty is a dentist specializing in implants in St. Kitts. He is visiting the U.S. for his birthday and will be hanging out in line to get the iPhone X as a good present to himself.

Rick Miller was happy to have gone to Haiti with his Rotary friends. He found out that they all had a lot in common;
Randy Lichtman wanted to thank Diane Landsberg for hosting the MDC Rotaract Pinning Ceremony at her home last Sunday;
Diane Landsberg thanked everyone for coming on Sunday. It made the event a very special one for everyone;

Marcia Brod was happy to be finally done with appointments at the ophthalmologist;
Dave Skinner thanked the current Rotary leadership for their help in preparing him for next year’s presidency of the Club;
Tina Moore was happy to be back in the U.S. and at the club meeting;
Linda Singer was appreciative of the good work members did on their trip to Haiti;
Robin Shelley was heading to St. Kitts soon and now has a contact there. Rotary is a great way to meet people;
Robert Bull won the big 50/50 jackpot and since all that money has been either donated or spent – he’s expecting to win the new pot today;
Dr. Da Vinci Carty was happy to be celebrating his 37th birthday while in the U.S.
Cory Gittner had a birthday this past week, along with his son. His son has gotten his A.S. degree from MDC and received his real estate license…..anyone looking for a home?
Announcements
The pinning ceremony for Rotaract members from MDC was held at Diane’s home. There was a great turnout of members and everyone had a great time. DG Alan Cohn attended as a representative of the District;
The 50/50 drawing is starting over. Today was “pay day” for Robert Bull, winner of the big 50/50 pot. A fresh deck of cards has been initiated. This time around there are no “clubs” in the deck so the chances of picking the ace of spades is 1 out of 39 to start off. Good luck everyone!
The Chris Morrison Memorial Golf Ball Drop will occur on February 1. Those wishing to take part in this District fundraiser can purchase $25 tickets for a chance to be the closest golf ball to the hole from the helicopter drop;
NO LUNCH MEETING NEXT WEEK. Instead we will meet in the evening at 7pm at the Military Lounge at Miami International Airport. This will be in celebration of Veterans Day;
Holidays are coming up. The club will be presenting the Griffitts Award recognizing the City of Miami Officer of the Year on Thursday, Dec. 7. Club holiday party will be Saturday Dec. 16 at Diane’s home and we will have a holiday luncheon meeting on December 21;
Stephan Schenk has been approved to rejoin the club as a member;
The Club’s Foundation will be participating in Give Miami Day on November 16. Be sure to participate and spread the word. Funds donated on that day to our Foundation will be matched in part by the Miami Foundation. What is collected will be designated to the Thomas Brown McClelland Trust.

How long have you been a member?
I have been a Rotarian since 1983 – with 4 different clubs.
Why did you join Rotary?
It was good politically, the members were great, friendships were made, it was fun and there
were opportunities for community service.
Rotary Positions Held:
I’ve been on various committees, on the board and served as Club president.
Personal:
My wife Sue and I have 2 sons. The boys and their families live in California and we have 3
grandkids. I have a BS in Business Administration from UC Berkeley and a MPA from Colorado State.
Professional:
I am now retired, but finished my career as Director of Corrections with Miami-Dade County.
Something you don’t know about me:
I have a 25 acre farm in California and two mines in the Sierra Nevada on the America River.
Today’s Program
Today we celebrated the work of four of our members: Renel Noel, Rick Miller, Dave Skinner and Norby Rudel;
They spent a week in Haiti assisting Renel in getting a water project completed to help those in the community;
There were four short presentations with some amazing photographs of the island and its beautiful people. The smiles on the children were hard to forget.
The project Renel has been working on benefits a 140 bed hospital and a connected orphanage that is home to 70 children.
They worked to install a pump to be used for drinking water and double the current capacity. It was a lot of work and, hopefully, when some electrical issues are resolved the pump will be up and running.
We appreciate the work that was done…these members are truly what Rotary is all about - Service Above Self. We thank you all!!!!
