President Noreen Timoney welcomed everyone to the meeting, especially our International Rotarians and visitors.
 
INVOCATION – Shirley Pardon began by recognizing the victims of the Haitian earthquake and the tragedy that has been compounded by the storm.
 
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE – Given by Cory Gittner.

BIRTHDAYS:  Robin Shelley – celebrating in the Keys TODAY.  Other August birthdays include Sue Ryan, Tina Moore, Manny Kilbaner, John Carroll, Nelly Anderson, and Gloria Romero Roses.
 
NORM KASSOFF'S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION:  Will be hold at Diane Landsberg home on September 5th.
 
ROTARIAN ANNIVERSARIES: Diane Landsberg, Marcos Menendez, Oliver Ruiz, Brian Tschirhart, Nelly Anderson, Susan Lichtman, Karla Richey, Marissa Miles, Norys Figuera, Karen Lapekas, Dunia Miranda-Mauri, John Harrison, and Ariel Gonzalez.
 
ROTARY DISTRICT 6990 CONFERENCE 2020-2021 will be held September 9th, the Naples Grand Beach Hotel, Naples

CURRENT HAPPENINGS:
  • International Coastal cleanup – will be held 9-11 a.m.  September 18th
  •  
  • End Plastic Soup: Our Club will be the Ambassador for ENDPLASTICSOUP in our District.
  • Milk & Honey – Sunday August 22, 2021 for provide food for Senior Holocaust Survivors for the Jewish holidays
  • Back Packs – organized by Community Service Committee. 70 going to Lighthouse for the Blind; 48 going to other organizations needing assistance.
  • Alpha Generator Investment ClubDave Anderson reported they are ready to start.  Initial formation fee of $100, then $300 per six-periodically period.  Email Dave Anderson, Robert Bull or Phil Seipp for more details
 
FINANCIAL REPORT – Phil Seipp 
$150 of the $200 dues goes to the Club, the rest goes to Rotary International.   Next focus is ERAY.  He encouraged members to make their annual donation of minimum of $25 or max $100 for the Foundation.  Patti Urban is helping with the Paul Harris awards which results from this giving.
 
Noreen thanked Phil and also Northern Trust, Amelia Bonilla, Scott Richey and Angela Deggs
 
GUEST SPEAKER – Introduced by Marcia Brod.
  • Dr. Thomas H. Champney is an expert on Melatonin.  He gave an information talk on all aspects of this unusual and remarkable natural plant and its uses in today’s modern world.
  • There were several questions following the presentation.
Dr. Champney was presented with a certificate of Appreciation as Keynote speaker.

  • David Anderson - happy to hear the Doctor and his information
  • Amelia Bonilla – Ditto to Dave Anderson – also she has just got a promotion at work!

  • Noreen Timoney - Delighted that it was such a wonderful presentation from Dr. Champney.  Happy that we all got up today!
