President Norby Rudel called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone. Cory Gittner gave an invocation and Tim Ryan led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

Visitors and Guests were introduced by Jay Almeida:

  • Roberto Ruvalcaba was visiting from the Brickell Club. We always enjoy his visits;

  • Bjorn Erik Hansen is originally from Norway. He has been in Miami for 15 years and is checking out our club for potential membership. You don’t have to look any further Bjorn!!

  • Angela Shlyakhov came to the meeting as a guest of Tina Moore. She shared information about an upcoming exhibit celebrating 100 years for Women’s Right to Vote;

  • Priscilla Blake is with Wingspan Seminars and does conflict resolution. She just returned from a rewarding trip to South Africa;

  • Jocelyne Belizaire, our regular visiting Rotarian from Haiti, joined us again for lunch;

  • Jason Smith is a friend of Tim Ryan’s and is a Real Estate Agent.

Announcements:

  • Birthday best wishes go out to Cathy Cahill, Angel Rodriguez and Don Van Orsdel;

  • The District 6990 Golf Ball Drop Fundraiser will be in February. See Dave Anderson to get your tickets ($25 each) for the chance to win big prizes;

  • There will be an evening social at Vino’s in Coconut Grove from 6-9:00pm on Monday, November 11;

  • Keep an eye out for the many upcoming community service opportunities. Emails from Robert Bull will provide complete details;

  • Robert announced that Tina Moore was the winner of the Daylight Savings Time challenge to make the most of her extra hour. Congrats;

  • Don’t forget to plan on participating in the Club Foundation’s $100 challenge. Pick a community service project and receive $100 to support your project;

  • November 14’s speaker will be Rotary District 6990 DG Ray Williams. Board members should be at the Yacht Club at 11:00 for a board meeting. Be sure to attend;

  • Wishes for a speedy recovery go out to Phil Seipp’s wife Sharon…she had a fall and is now in rehab. Hope you’re back on the road to good health soon!

Happy $$$$$$$$$$$$ were collected by Tim Ryan:

  • Linda Singer thanked Diane Landsberg for the club’s Halloween party. Seeing everyone’s creativity in costume design was fun;

  • Rick Miller was happy just because;

  • Cathy Cahill enjoyed a trip to Boston for a 50-year high school reunion;

  • Tina Moore is happy to be back at the club;

  • Angela Shlyakhov is happy to be at today’s meeting and also to share some upcoming opportunities;

  • Noreen Timoney is thrilled about all the community service work Robert Bull is doing. We are doing so much!

  • Randy Lichtman was glad to celebrate his wife Susan’s birthday at a fundraising event for one of her school projects. He is also looking forward to a trip to NYC to visit his son Leo;

  • Jay Almeida also thanked Robert Bull for the many service projects the club is participating in;

  • Oliver Ruiz was glad to be back after having missed a few meetings. He also is happy about the community service projects so his daughter can help out and get her required community service hours for school;

  • Diane Landsberg shared that Robin and Susan Shelley were acknowledged for their philanthropy at a dinner organized by the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Today’s Program – today’s speaker had to cancel the presentation at the last minute….so special thanks to President Norby for his emergency call to service!!

  • President Norby is working on promoting a new Corporate Sponsorship Program for the club. He has been working with others in the District to fine tune the program;

  • It is an educational program to increase club recognition and membership by targeting the corporate community in Miami (Our CBD brings in 175,000 into the downtown area every day and everyone is a potential member);

  • Miami is the 4th fastest growing city and #1 in job growth. The weekly lunch meeting venue is only a 13 minute Uber ride for most in downtown;

  • Corporate members would gain from Rotary membership – service opportunities, teambuilding, fun, educational and vocational advancement, leadership and personal growth and development;

  • Rotary Club of Miami gains increased membership, branding, increased diversity and cultural awareness to fulfill its goals;

  • The club will organize the roll out with 1) A committee formed; 2) Discuss tools and resources; 3) Devise a S.M.A.R.T. plan; 4) Execute the plan; and 5) Celebrate!!!

  • A win-win for everyone!

50/50 Raffle

Our super-duper pot started off the day at $3,986. $454 was collected today, making the total available $4,350. Quite a haul. There were only three cards left and, needless-to-say, the odds of picking the Ace of Spades is 1 in 3, which is pretty darn good. Linda Singer was the lucky first choice, but unluckily she didn’t pick the Ace. ONLY TWO CARDS LEFT!!!! Can’t wait for next week’s draw!!!!
