President Noreen Timoney welcomed everyone to the meeting, especially our International Rotarians, visitors and keynote speaker, Historian Brad Bertelli.
 
INVOCATIONJay Almeida began with an invocation giving thanks for all of our blessings.

BIRTHDAYS: Nelly Anderson and Gloria Romero Roses. Other August birthdays include Robin Shelley, Susan Shelley, Sue Ryan, Tina Moore, Manny Klibaner and John Carroll.
 
NORM KASSOFF'S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION: Will be held at Diane Landsberg’s home on September 5, 2021.
 
ROTARY DISTRICT 6990 CONFERENCE 2020-2021 will be held September 9, 2021, at the Naples Grand Beach Hotel, in beautiful Naples, Florida.
 
CURRENT HAPPENINGS: President Noreen Timony provided updates on upcoming community service projects including preparation for Soctober when members collect socks for Miami’s homeless community.
 
International Coastal Cleanup – will be held 9-11 a.m. September 18th 
End Plastic Soup: Our Club will be the Ambassador for ENDPLASTICSOUP in our District.
 
Alpha Generator Investment Club - Noreen Timony encouraged those interested in joining the club’s investment club to email Dave Anderson for more details. 
 
New Member Induction - Dave Anderson re-introduced Michael Harper and performed the new member induction. Michael is originally from the Philadelphia area and has two children, Gabriella age 12 and Dominic age 3. Michael has a history of being a Rotarian and is a Paul Harris Fellow. Welcome back, Michael!
 
GUEST SPEAKER – Introduced by Robin Shelley
Brad Bertelli, is the curator and historian at Islamorada's Keys History & Discovery
Center. Brad’s presentation was about the "Last Train to Paradise" regarding the 1935 Labor Day hurricane in the Keys. Brad moved from California to Florida in
1989. He has a Masters of Fine Arts from The University of Miami and has published seven books on The Florida Keys History. Brad lives and writes a weekly newspaper
column in Islamorada Key, Florida.

Marcia Brod - for her and husband Lenny Brod finally returning to the theater!
Robin Shelley- For Historian Brad Bertelli joining us today and for meeting him in the Florida Keys.
Priscilla Dames- for returning from Granada Spain and for being recognized in New York for raising funds for Children’s cancer research.
President Noreen- For Historian Brad Bertelli’s informative presentation and for today’s induction of Michael Harper
Tina Moore- for spending time with the club today and for an outstanding presentation by Historian Brad Bertelli.
