President Dave Skinner opened the meeting by welcoming everyone in attendance. Shirley Pardon gave an invocation and Scott Richey led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

Steve and Sandy Skinner were down in Miami to celebrate brother (even though Steve always wanted to be an only child) Dave’s birthday. It was great that they could come to a meeting as well. They are from Atlanta and have done ministry work in Liberia;
Mona-Lise Dolle is visiting Miami and is a relative of a Rotarian from France;
Andres Mauricio Torres Gonzalez is a visiting Rotarian from the Armero Ibagué Club in Columbia;
Austin Sander is a guest of Norby Rudel and works as an insurance broker with Gallagher.

It’s the merry month of May and we are happy to celebrate a bunch of May birthdays. Best wishes and a lovely cake were shared with Dave Skinner, Linda Singer and Shirley Pardon. Randy Lichtman and Diane Stieber were also celebrating birthdays this month, but missed out on the cake, however, our best wishes go out to them as well;
Bunny Uriarte was called up to the podium and was congratulated on her upcoming graduation with a Master’s Degree. Congrats!!!!

We welcomed back Neivy to the Yacht Club staff. She was on maternity leave and promises to bring some photos of her newborn soon.

Jay Almeida thanked everyone for coming to the meeting and gave a big thanks to Diane Landsberg for hosting the Interact Club and our club members last Friday for a wonderful evening;
Noreen Timoney was happy that her daughter received her MSW degree and also just happened to give birth to a healthy baby!
Linda Singer was happy to have family visiting for Dave’s birthday – and apologized for spilling the beans on what was supposed to be a surprise visit! She also encouraged everyone to read the article in the latest Rotarian magazine about climate change;
Scott Richey had a great time celebrating wife Karla’s birthday in St. Lucia. He also thanked everyone who attended the gala at the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind;
Diane Landsberg enjoyed sharing her home with the Interact Club of Miami High. She attended an event for Informed Families of Miami-Dade with the Shelleys. Attending the Lighthouse event really paid off for her – she won a $500 gift certificate to Neiman Marcus – a great way to end the week;
Robert Bull enjoyed the Lighthouse event. He also thanked Jay Almeida for his social media and Instagram work on behalf of the club;
Tim Ryan has had three operations and is very glad to be “seen and not viewed” at today’s meeting;
Dave Skinner is happy to have brother Steve and sister-in–law Sandy at the meeting today;
Robin Shelley is looking forward today’s speaker from the Dade Heritage Trust. He reminded us that the Trust’s office is in the building where our club founder, Dr. James Jackson, worked. He also had a great time at the Lighthouse event where he reminded us that Scott Richey is on the board and Norby Rudel was a rock star at the gala. Robin said that Susie Shelley will be informed that he got to sit next to the lovely Mona-Lise today.

Christine Rupp has been the Executive Director of the Dade Heritage Trust since November 2015. Prior to joining the Trust, she was Executive Director of the Coral Gables Museum;
Founded in 1972, Dade Heritage Trust is Miami-Dade County’s largest preservation organization. The Trust’s mission is to preserve Miami-Dade County’s architectural, environmental, and cultural heritage through preservation, education and advocacy efforts;
Located in the 1905 original office of Dr. James Jackson, Miami’s first physician and founder and first president of the Rotary Club of Miami, DHT is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It is now an Official Heritage Tourism Visitors Center, supported by Miami Downtown Development Authority, the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau and Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs;
The Trust provides tours of historic sites on a regular basis and its advocacy program has assisted with the rescue and restoration of many historic venues throughout Miami-Dade County. Working with partner organizations and governments, Dade Heritage Trust has preserved and continues to advocate for responsible development and preservation of our community’s historic resources;

We started the pot with $881. Renel Noel sold $103 tickets today. Phil Seipp was lucky to have the first ticket selected, but that did not turn into luck drawing the elusive Ace of Spades. Next week’s pot will start at $959. There’s going to be a BIG winner one day soon!!!!!
